“SEPARATION
ONTO REUNIFICATION”
By:

Matthew
1:23 says, “Behold, a
virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call
his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
We have already seen, from the
preceding verse, that this prophecy is taken from Isaiah 7:14. Both the
divine and human nature of our Lord, as well as the miraculous conception,
appear to be pointed out in the prophecy quoted here as: - He shall be called `IMMAANUW-'EEL
(IMMANUEL) literally, The STRONG GOD WITH US: similar to those words in the New
Testament:-The Word which was God-was made flesh, and dwelt among us, full of
grace and truth: John 1:1, 14. And, God was manifested in the flesh: 1 Tim 3:16. So that we are to
understand, God with us, to imply God incarnated-God in human nature.
This seems further evident from
the words of the prophet, Matt 1:15. Butter and honey shall he eat-he shall be
truly man, grow up and be nourished in a human, natural way; which refers to
his being WITH US, i.e. incarnated. To which the prophet adds, that he may know
to refuse the evil and choose the good. This refers to him as GOD. Now this
union of the divine and human nature is termed a sign or miracle, i.e. something
which exceeds the power of nature to produce. And this miraculous union was to
be brought about in a miraculous way: Behold a VIRGIN shall conceive: the word
is very emphatic, The Virgin; the
only one that ever was, or ever shall be, a mother in this way.
Gen
3:15 thus says, “The seed of the woman shall bruise the head of the
serpent,” for the person who was to destroy the work of the
Devil was to be the progeny of the woman, without any concurrence of the man.
And, hence, the text in Genesis
speaks as fully of the virgin state of the person, from whom Christ, according
to the flesh, should come, as that in the prophet, or this in the evangelist.
According to the original promise, there was to be a seed, a human being, Who
should destroy sin; but this seed or human being must come from the woman
ALONE; and no woman ALONE, could produce such a human being, without being a
virgin. Hence, “A virgin shall bear a son,” is
the very spirit and meaning of the original text, independently of the
illustration given by the prophet; and the fact recorded by the evangelist is
the proof of the whole.
In what sense, then, is Christ
GOD WITH US! Jesus is called Immanuel or God with us, in his incarnation. God
united to our nature-God with man-God in man-God with us, by his continual
protection-God with us, by the influences of his Holy Spirit-in the holy
sacrament-in the preaching of his word-in private prayer. And God with us,
through every action of our life; that we begin, continue, and end in His name.
He is God with us, to comfort, enlighten, protect, and defend us in every time
of temptation and trial, in the hour of death, in the Day of Judgment; and God
with us, and in us, and we with and in him, to all eternity. Thus, our spirit
had reunited with Christ and we no longer live alone but Christ lives in us.
Therefore, though our human bodies have different forms in separate sense but
we are always in Christ in spirit as one.
Colossians
3:15 says, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, since as
members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
We must open and allow the peace
of Christ to judge, decide, and govern in our hearts. No heart is right with
God where the peace of Christ does not rule; and the continual prevalence of
the peace of Christ is the decisive proof that the heart is right with God.
When a man loses his peace, it is an awful proof that he has lost something
else; that he has given way to evil, and grieved the Spirit of God. While peace
rules, all is safe.
We cannot have peace with God, in
ourselves, nor among each other, unless we continue in unity; and, as one body,
continue in connection and dependence on Him who is our only head: to this we
are called; it is a glorious state of salvation, and we should be forever
thankful that we are thus privileged.
Eph
4:4-6 say, “There is one body and one Spirit- just as you were
called to one hope when you were called4 one Lord, one faith, one
baptism;5 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all
and in all6.”
One
body: The
organism composed of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head and all true believers
in Him. It is the new creation, means that when we have given and allowed the
new born baby ‘Christ’ in our hearts to be born, our spirit reunited with Him
and we became the part of the body of Christ by putting faith in Him that He became
our everlasting Prince of Peace. And
‘One Spirit’ The Holy Spirit himself
is the life infusing every part of the body. Then, ‘the one baptism’ is undoubtedly the baptism of the Holy Spirit-that
ministry of the Spirit by which we have been put into the body of Christ (1
Cor. 12:13).
Christmas challenge:-You
have a purpose, a reason for being here
Each of us has a purpose or a mission to perform
in this life. That mission is unique. Each of us has been given a special task
to perform, a task that specifically fits in with the master plan of our
Creator. That mission was given to you at the moment of your creation. No one
else has your exact mission. It cannot be transferred nor altered. If you do
not complete your assigned task, no one can step in and complete it for you. It
is unique to you, and only you can do it.
